Front Gate
From the front gate on Yokatopia-dori Avenue, you can see the museum with the Fukuoka Tower as its backdrop, which is a view familiar in photos and logo designs. (At the time of the museum's opening, the tower was actually the only building visible in the background.) The front gate consists of a central gate with four walls each placed on both sides of the gate positioned in a semi-circle. The gate is 12.74 meters high, 10 meters wide, and 5 meters deep. The walls are 5 meters wide and 69 centimeters thick. The heights of the walls are approximately 11 meters, 9.4 meters, 8 meters and 7 meters in order of proximity to the gate. The walls are made of granite.
Pond
There is a 2,000-square-meter pond between the front gate and the museum building that reflects the half-mirror glass-covered museum on its surface. The pond looks quite deep, but it is actually only 27 centimeters at its deepest point. The water in the pond is recycled from the water used in the museum building. Since it is processed with chloride to keep mosses and the likes from growing in the pond, no fish can live there. However, you can sometimes find mandarin ducks and other birds resting in the pond.Front Gate
